About the Position:
The Tularosa Police Department is seeking a dedicated and experienced law enforcement professional to serve as a Lieutenant. This leadership position plays a critical role in overseeing the daily operations of patrol units, supervising personnel, and supporting departmental goals and community policing efforts.
As a Lieutenant, you will work directly with the Chief of Police and command staff to ensure public safety, uphold department policies, and foster positive community relations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of patrol officers and sergeants
- Ensure adherence to department policies, procedures, and applicable laws
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide mentorship and training
- Respond to major incidents and assume command when appropriate
- Assist in planning, developing, and implementing department initiatives
- Collaborate with other local, state, and federal agencies as needed
- Serve as a liaison between department leadership and field personnel
- Support community outreach and engagement programs
- Position is a working supervisory position; will be required to patrol and enforce laws
- Will respond to calls for service and be required to investigate, charge, and prosecute cases
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current New Mexico Law Enforcement Certification preferred or have the ability to obtain certification and must meet the specific requirements to obtain a CBW within 12 months’ time from date of hire
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive law enforcement experience
- Prior supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Valid New Mexico Driver’s License or ability to obtain one
- High school diploma or GED

School Resource Officer

Position Summary:
The Village of Tularosa along with the Tularosa Municipal Schools is seeking a dedicated and community-focused School Resource Officer (SRO) to join our team. The SRO will serve as a sworn law enforcement officer responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will build positive relationships with students and act as a trusted presence on campus, while also fulfilling public safety responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide security and law enforcement services on school property
- Develop positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
- Prevent and respond to incidents of violence, theft, drug use, and other criminal activities
- Serve as a liaison between the school and local law enforcement agencies
- Support school administrators in emergency preparedness planning
- Deliver safety presentations and support educational programs as needed
- Reports to Tularosa Police Department Chief of Police
- Provide traffic control at all school crossings
- Will serve as a certified law enforcement officer and provide law enforcement services to the Village of Tularosa when school is out of session
Qualifications:
- Certified law enforcement officer in the State of New Mexico
- Minimum of 2 years of law enforcement experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work with the youth in an educational setting
- Background check and clearance required
- Will be required to attend the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) Training and any other training pertinent to the duties of a School Resource Officer and any other required Law Enforcement certifications
